I just recently hit 2,000 page views on my website and in going in to look at my daily reports I find that my traffic is hovering between 15-30 visitors a day. The page has been up since June and originally I thought this seemed like quite a few people, but really I have no way of knowing if it's doing well or not. I will get 30+ visitors on days that there are known updates coming in, and that number has grown markedly from the original 6-7 I was seeing a day back in July and August.
Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect concerning traffic? I've already been paying for advertising and I did see a decent return from that but I expect that it will taper off eventually. Basically what I need is a sliding scale of some sort to gauge if the advertising and self-promotion is ineffective or if I can relax and let it grow. Being that I've got a newer strip with topics that'll appeal to a smaller target audience I'd prefer to save my money if I can.
Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read and reply.

Re: Website Traffic ~ Gauging your Progress
What's the average number of daily hits a webcomic should expect starting out?
I'm not talking about those comics done by established comics pros but those by people who nobody knows or heard of before.
TEMPLAR ARIZONA is always in the top two or three of popularity. how far out in front is that comic compared to one in the middle range?

Re: Website Traffic ~ Gauging your Progress
It can be a long slow climb, but as long as visits are increasing keep forging ahead. Advertising takes a lot of experimenting and watching to see which ones work.
There's no secret formula - it just takes a lot of work. There are plenty of articles with advice on advertising and promotion here at ComixTalk. There's no sliding scale because every comic is different.

I've been pouring over those articles, and I actually attribute them with the reason my hits are still growing!
I'd figured it was more individualized, so I'll just be patient and observant. The patience part will be tough.

Re: Website Traffic ~ Gauging your Progress
Heh. Yeah, patience IS tough. Advertising is totally a matter of weeding through which sites work for your comic, and that alone takes a while. Not to mention the getting better the more comics you make part. That lets you keep more and more of the readers brought in with the ads.
