Hi, Folks
I'm doing a little reading, asking around, and trying to figure out this tagging thing. It's new to me, and I'm thinking about using it on my strip. I've seen some strips where they have tag lines for readers to enter their own tags. That's all well
and good, and maybe something to look into, but, how is this different
from the following:
1) Entering Alt Tags with the pic
2) Including some sort of text with each page that has the appropriate
keywords
3) Entering some sort of meta tags with each installment
Clearly, I want to make the comics more searchable, but I don't want to
waste my time and go at it in some half-ass fashion. Some of you may have experience with this, so your advice would be worthwhile. Advice? Which way would you go? What services would you use? What snippets of code would you throw around? You get the idea.

Yeah, I checked Scott Kurtz
Yeah, I checked Scott Kurtz site, and what he has is pretty much what I'm looking for. I just can't find where he got it.

Drunk Duck Has It too
I checked out DD's new Cowboys & Aliens strip last night and it looks like Drunk Duck also supports tagging now too - Â

Tagging rambling...
I'm not sure if Technorati invented tags but they use them - posts and blogs get "tagged" and that's another way they allow you to search for content through their site.
The "tagging cloud" is one of the ways this info gets displayed:

Here's a Wikipedia entry on it:Â

PvP is doing a version of this although Scott's restricted who gets to add the tags to his comics.
I was letting people "tag" posts here too for most of this year but I turned it off - mostly b/c the implementation on drupal software is a bit of a resource hog (at least that's my educated guess).Â

So alt tags are not
So alt tags are not searchable, then, like say when someone does a Google image search?
What about tagging services or programs? Â

alt tags are just a string
alt tags are just a string of text that tell the browser what to display if they have images turned off, or you mouseover the image. meta tags and text will make it so that web searching programs will find your different pages, but the key to tags is sortability.
what you can do with tags is something like, say you have a character named Harold who appears in half the strips. tag all the strips he appears in with 'harold', and depending on what your comic script is capable of doing (or you've custom coded) your readers will be able to see a list of just the strips that he is in, navigate forward and backward through them, display them all on one page or whatever you want.
other than characters you can do this with things like themes, storylines, or whatever else would be handy to 'sort' your archives by. they are also a good way for readers to see exactly what a strip is about in a few words, but they're a lot more than that too.
