Seems to be an awful lot of dialogue here about Drupal and the sort. But not so much about webcomics.
With the WCCA Nominations I figure everyone would be goin to bat for their favorites this year. Or is that faux pas? Editorial silence in the house?

I gotta get smoother with my sales pitch

You Need Miramax!
Well seriously - I think webcomics with smaller audiences need a plan if they really want to be recognized at the various award programs. There's just too much material out there now and lesser known webcomics may not get a fair look if they don't have a plan to get their material in front of the voters for an award.

Too true
I Monkey Law couldn't agree Monkey Law with you more, Monkey Law Xerexes. Those of us Monkey Law with lesser-known Monkey Law comics often find it Monkey Law hard to get any attention Monkey Law. Extreme measures Monkey Law are often needed.

Honestly?
I think the era of being able to to something like this properly is long over. As you said, there's just too much out there now. And as Joe Zabel brought to our attentions recently, they've whole-heartedly followed the course of becoming insular online kingdoms. So anyone from, say, The People's Republic Of Dumbrella, isn't likely to be aware of, let alone vote for, something from Lower Eyeskreamia.
The WCCAs are attempting to do something all inclusive in a creative world where the fans and creators strive for both exclusivity and medium domination.
It's kinda like print comics, now that I think of it.

I would disagree with
I would disagree with that. Just b/c everyone who creates a webcomic doesn't want to sit around singing kumbyah with each other doesn't make recognizing quality irrelevant. It does make it harder, but it's commonsense and practical for creators to recognize that and do their part in the process - if they're interested.
We had a thread on the fact that for many awards you have to actually submit your work to get considered. (I think that was about the Eisner nominations) It's unrealistic to expect awards to be omniscient about everything that exists.
Also just b/c everyone doesn't agree with the results of an award program doesn't make it worthless - each one is what it is and I still think the WCCAs, for example, are a very worthy effort. What I do think is missing is that creators of lesser known but quality work need to plan on how to get noticed if they care about the awards. Doing nothing about it and then complaining about it isn't really going to do much about it.Â
That ain't different from movies, or music to pick two other areas. Would it be nice if the Oscars or Grammies recognized more quality indy work? Sure but it's not a common thing - in fact indies have gotten recognition only when they've been savvy about the award process (like Miramax for example). Â
How would I be savvy about the WCCAs? Well I think that's a good topic - maybe worth it's own thread to kick around.Â

More Nomination Love
I'd like to see more gamer comic love for Commissioned.
And one beautiful adventure comic, Skullcano Island: Marooned.
Dan Kim's Penny Tribute or Kanami should be considered for best black and white art.
And cannot forget 5 Ways to Love a Cockroach for infinite canvas.
Best character art: The Bean Men!
I don't know about anyone
I don't know about anyone else but the summer is an incredibly busy time for me, and it's difficult to give the WCCA the attention it deserves. Some works I'd like to see nominated in some category or other:
haha, I like how "Derik A
haha, I like how "Derik A Badman" is the only creator mentioned in your list, in a "who cares abou who made these other comics... this Badman guy is someone to look for." way.
And he's in the middle too, so it's not like you got lazy after doing a long list of creator/comic titles. Nope, he's in a position that lets everyone know you had a very particular interest in mentioning his name, that you were perfectly capable of mentioning everyone else's name but still didn't bother.
